Amy Toruño is a Nicaraguan native raised in Miami, Florida. She holds an MFA in Theatre from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BA in Vocal Performance from The University of Iowa. Her favorite credits include; Tania in NATIVE GARDENS, Gabriela in REFERENCES TO SALVADOR DALÍ MAKE ME HOT, and Fraulein Kost in CABARET. She is the author of a biographical collection of poems, as well as the winner of the 2021 Kennedy Center's Latinx Playwright Award. Amy is currently the Practitioner in Residence at Columbia College Chicago and is passionate about building opportunities for brown folks in The American Theatre.
